THE TANNAHILL WEAVERS
and ppecial guest: Double Fiddles - Iain MacGillivray & Chuck Butler

Pond Stage Productions is excited to present a special performance featuring one of Scotland's premier traditional bands, the Tannahill Weavers, for a memorable concert in Duluth, Minnesota on Wednesday, October 6, 2010.

The Tannahill Weavers have turned their acoustic excitement loose on audiences with an electrifying effect. They have that unique combination of traditional melodies, driving rhythmic accompaniment, and rich vocals that make their performances unforgettable. The Tannahill Weavers diverse repertoire spans the centuries with fire-driven instrumentals, topical songs, and original ballads and lullabies. Their music demonstrates to old and young alike the rich and varied musical heritage of the Celtic people. These versatile musicians have received worldwide accolades consistently over the years for their exuberant performances and outstanding recording efforts that seemingly can't get better...yet continue to do just that.

"The Tannahill Weavers - properly harnessed - could probably power an entire city for a year on the strength of last night's concert alone. The music may be old time Celtic, but the drive and enthusiasm are akin to straight ahead rock and roll." - Winnipeg Free Press

DOUBLE FIDDLES - Iain MacGillivray & Chuck Butler - bring new life to the traditional music of Scotland, Cape Breton and Ireland with the drive of double-fiddling, fresh energy and creative interpretation featuring a mix of traditional instruments such as fiddle, highland bagpipes, tin whistle, guitar and accordion. Iain MacGillivray is the third generation of his family to carry on a piping tradition, following in the footsteps of his Gold Medal winning piping father, Duncan, and his grandfather, Donald P. MacGillivray. Iain is the son of former Battlefield Band piper, Duncan MacGillivray. Chuck Butler is a traditional Donegal-style fiddler who is also well-versed with Cape Breton fiddle music. He carries on a third-generation family fiddle tradition from County Donegal in Ireland. His family’s music tradition traveled from Ireland to Newfoundland, and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. They are joined by two respected names in Celtic music, Jim Ofsthun and Sue Spencer who add their versatile instrumental skills, and their vocal talents to bring new life to traditional songs.

The legendary Tannahill Weavers team their talents with the energetic music of Double Fiddles, to delight the audience with an outstanding concert of original and traditional music at 7:00 pm on Wednesday evening, October 6, 2010. The concert will be held at the Weber Music Hall on the UMD campus, located at 1151 University Drive in Duluth, Minnesota.
