The Irish in Northeastern Minnesota
Irish immigrants that settled in Northeastern Minnesota in the 1800s helped build the railroads, and worked in the mines, lumber camps, industry and shipyards. In Duluth, the Irish neighborhood known as 'Corktown' was just a stone's-throw from Clyde Iron's location. Northeastern Minnesota is currently home to one of the largest segments of Minnesota's population who proclaim Irish in their ancestry.
