PETER OSTROUSHKO has come to be regarded as one of the finest mandolin and fiddle players in acoustic music. His tours have taken him to performing arts centers, music festivals and theaters across North America and Europe, where he has earned an international reputation as a versatile and dazzling master of instrumentation and composition.
Pond Stage Productions is excited to present one of the most accomplished instrumentalists and gifted composers of his generation. Peter Ostroushko, in a special concert performance in Duluth, Minnesota on Friday, January 29, 2010. “...Ostroushko is one of a group of virtuoso musicians capable of defying boundaries ... as both a composer and a player, Peter Ostroushko deserves a prominent place in the front rank of today’s acoustic music scene.” (Sing Out! Peter Ostroushko has played with Jethro Burns, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, Chet Atkins, Johnny Gimble. And has collaborated with Greg Brown, John Hartford, Taj Mahal, Robin & Linda Williams, Norman and Nancy Blake, Tim O'Brien and Hot Rize, Bob Dylan's recording Blood on the Tracks, and his work is featured on Robin Holcomb's 1992 release Rockabye (Elektra).
Peter has played lead ukulele with the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Sir Neville Mariner. He's appeared on The David Lettermen Show and on Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. He's composed and performed scores for The Children's Theater in Minneapolis, the ACT Theatre, and the public television special The Dakota Conflict. Peter has appeared on numerous radio and television music shows including Mountain Stage, Good Evening, Prairie Home Companion, Nashville Network, Lonesome Pine Special and Austin City Limits.
DOUBLE FIDDLES - Iain MacGillivray & Chuck Butler - International artists Iain MacGillivray and Chuck Butler bring the traditional music of Scotland, Cape Breton and Ireland to life with fresh interpretations, double-fiddling and with a mix of traditional instruments such as the fiddle, highland bagpipes, tin whistle, guitar and accordion.
Iain MacGillivray is the third generation of his family to carry on a piping tradition, following in the footsteps of his Gold Medal winning piping father, Duncan, and his grandfather, Donald P. MacGillivray. Iain is the son of former Battlefield Band piper, Duncan MacGillivray.
Chuck Butler is a traditional Donegal-style fiddler who is also well-versed with Cape Breton fiddle music. He carries on a third-generation family fiddle tradition from County Donegal in Ireland. His family’s music tradition traveled from Ireland to Newfoundland, and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
They are joined by two respected names in Celtic music, Jim Ofsthun and Sue Spencer who add their versatile instrumental skills, and their vocal talents to bring new life to traditional songs.
The legendary Peter Ostroushko teams his talents with the the energetic music of Double Fiddles, to delight their audience with an outstanding concert of original and traditional music at 7:30 pm on Friday evening, January 29, 2010. The concert will be held at the Duluth Congregational Church, known for its rich acoustics. The church is located at 3833 East Superior Street in Duluth, MN.
