McInnis' Kitchen and special guest Iain MacGillivray
to perform in Aitkin at Concert to Bring Awareness About Hunger

This special concert of traditional Celtic music will feature internationally acclaimed McInnis' Kitchen and their very special guest, Iain MacGillivray from Scotland.

McInnis’ Kitchen (www.mcinniskitchen.com) performs their own special brand of traditional music rooted in their Canadian East Coast, Irish and Scottish heritage. Their performances feature four talented performers, all with individual backgrounds in traditional Irish, Newfoundland, Scottish, and Cape Breton music. Sue Spencer, Chuck Butler, Mark Monroe and Jim Ofsthun all bring their diverse individual traditional styles together to form a unique style of music that is a mix of Celtic music and culture. It's as diverse as the Newfoundland, Cape Breton, Irish, and Scottish family heritage and cultural upbringing of the individual musicians themselves.

These four talented performers pull out all the stops and play from the heart. The fiery double-fiddling puts energy in their music, and their songs stimulate all the emotion of the tradition, rooted in a history of immigration, uprooting and relocation, and a celebration of life and culture. Their performances evoke a world of traditional culture and storytelling, while drawing their audiences into the delightful experience, reminiscent of a downhome kitchen party.

McInnis' Kitchen has appeared on television and radio in the US and Canada. They have been featured as headliners at numerous concerts, festivals such as the Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Festival, Minnesota Irish Fair, Big Top Chautauqua, and Canada Day celebrations and have shared the stage with many top names in the industry.

McInnis' Kitchen will be joined in concert by Scotland's very own Iain Macgillivray - a talented multi-instrumentalist from Tain, near Inverness, Scotland. He is the son of former Battlefield Band piper, Duncan MacGillivray. Iain is the third generation of his family to carry on a piping tradition, following in the footsteps of his Gold Medal winning piping father, Duncan, and his grandfather, Donald P. MacGillivray. Iain MacGillivray performs traditional Scottish, Cape Breton and Donegal (Irish) folk music on fiddle, pipes and whistles. Iain also tours as a father/son team with his father, Duncan, performing at festivals around Scotland. He will be joining McInnis' Kitchen as their special guest to perform traditional music of Scotland, Cape Breton and from County Donegal in Ireland.

The concert hopes to bring awareness about hunger and the needs of area food shelves. The performance will be held on November 27, 2009, at Butler's in downtown Aitkin, MN as part of the festivities surrounding the World Famous Fish House Parade. With food shelves around Minnesota experiencing greater demand, there is a serious need to assist the essential work that these organizations provide to their communities. During the Holidays, as well as year around, these organizations help families put food on the table and help reduce the threat of hunger from family households.

The public attending the free concert are asked to bring non-perishable foods, and/or items of personal care (i.e.: shampoo, soap, etc.) to the concert as donations to support the Aitkin Area Food Shelf and the Community Food Shelf. Containers for food donations will be located at the concert. Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated because the food shelf organizations have considerable buying power and they can purchase large amounts of food at low cost. Official representatives from both local Aitkin-area food shelf organizations will be on hand at the concert to accept monetary and non-perishable food donations. This is a great opportunity to express the true spirit of the Holiday season by reaching out and ensuring that no one goes hungry.

The World Famous Fish House Parade is held annually in Aitkin, the Friday after Thanksgiving and features hilarious and down-right wacky floats with a fish house theme that depict the hearty winter fortitude of Northern Minnesota residents to brave the elements and have a little fun during the eight months of winter, here in the sub-arctic. The parade features a celebrity grand marshal, exotic floats, and is tied to numerous community events and activities, including a Pancake breakfast, Arts & Crafts Fair at the Westside Church, Lunch at Methodist Church and Westside Church, The Kinship Soup & Chili Cook-off at the American Legion, Mr & Mrs Santa Claus , live music, and a Fish House Stew for supper at 5 p.m. New for 2009: the Fish House Five-K (almost). It begins at Noon and feature 3-person teams will run a relay in full Minnesota winter gear. The main event, the World Famous Fish House Parade begins at 1:00 pm and the special concert immediately follows the parade at Butler's In Downtown AItkin.
